It's time to bring up that ugly subject... White flies. The white fly may ruin our plants by sucking the juice right out of them. They cut into the main vein of the leaf and drink all the nutrients intended for the plant.  Then they secrete a sticky, sappy substance that allows mold and fungus to adhere to the leaf and finish the job of killing your plants.

There are a number of ways to defeat them:

• Rinse the underside of the leaves with a powerful stream of water.
• Put water out for them in a pail. When they go to drink they drown instead.
• Place yellow paper plates with Vaseline on them around your plants.  They will be attracted to the color, and then trapped by the Vaseline.
