Potting tips... Three great tips for potting cacti! Though I've mentioned them before, they are some of the best advise given to me: When potting make sure the pot has a hole in the bottom. Use a coffee filter to cover the hole, this will let the water flow out but keep in the soil. When your done potting, use a gravel of some sort, fish aquarium gravel works well, to top your soil. This will keep the soil from drying out too fast and keep your soil from washing out. This is the most asked question that we receive: "How often do I water?" Well the best rule of thumb, because every situation is different, is to wait until the soil at the bottom of the pot is dry. The best way to check is to get a chopstick and stick it to the bottom of the pot. Wait 20 minutes then remove the chopstick if it is wet do not water. But, if it is dry, go ahead and water (and water well), because you won't water again until the soil is dry again.
