The Desert Botanical Garden, founded in 1937, is a living museum dedicated to desert lands research and education. It is located at the southeastern edge of the Salt River Valley in Phoenix, Arizona, near the cities of Scottsdale and Tempe, on 145 acres in the midst of the red rock buttes and giant cactus plants of Papago Park.

Boyce Thompson Southwestern Arboretum Welcome to the American Southwest's oldest and most spectacularly situated arboretum and botanical garden. Mining magnate Colonel William Boyce Thompson founded his arboretum near Superior, Arizona, just outside the metropolitan Phoenix area , in the roaring 1920's, to imbue in people an appreciation of plants.
